I'm looking for load date on N 3 SL   I believe it is a fairly fast hand gun powder but I'm not sure. I picked up 3 seals bottles at an estate sale and might be able to get a couple more.
The back of the bottle has a factory sticker that says "Use NEW Reloading Manual 1995".  If I could even find it on a older burn-rate chart it might help

Nicked this from another forum:

Quote:
3NSL is flake-type smokeless propellant that can be used for pistol and
revolver cartridges and shotshells. We have developed 3NSL data mainly for
Cowboy Action Shooting with lead bullets:

.38 Special

158 grs lead COL = 1.437 inches

3NSL starting charge 2.8 grs maximum charge 3.3 grs

.44 Special

240 grs lead COL = 1.539 inches

3NSL starting charge 4.4 grs maximum charge 5.3 grs

267 grs lead COL = 1.539 inches

3NSL starting charge 3.6 grs maximum charge 4.7 grs

.45 Colt

200 grs lead COL = 1.594 inches

3NSL starting charge 6.3 grs maximum charge 7.3 grs

250 grs lead COL = 1.594 inches

3NSL starting charge 5.1 grs maximum charge 6.1 grs

Use maximum charges with caution and have good shooting!

I just got off the phone with The Vihtavuori Rep and he said that the powder is no longer imported to the US but it is still manufactured by Vihtavuori. It's actually a shotgun powder and is slightly faster that N320 (its actually called N318) . Since it is slightly faster than N320 I would think it would be safe to back off of a known minimum N320 load and work up from there. Which brings me to my next question.

I have done quite a bit of load development for rifle cartridges and I am comfortable reading pressure signs as indicated by the primer deformation. Can this same technique be used in pistol load development? The reason for this question is that Im going to try to work up a 45 ACP load using the N3SL Powder and would like to know how to identify signs of excessive pressure.

And a burnrate chart:

Did my Google mojo help?

perfectly,  thank you very very much.       sounds like it might possibly work in small 22-25 cal rifle cases with a little experimentation
