Same case had a thicker wad under the bullet. Might want to buy a copy of Wolfe's "Loading  cartridges for the Origional Trapdoor" He has full details on the Orgional loads

The case was always the same lenght for both loadings.  The Carbine load was at first loaded witha cardboard tube to take up the space and later with wads, similar to how many load wads today.  Those cases incorporated a "C" in  the headstamp.  The finall method of loading was to seat the bullet down on the lesser charge of powder.  No "C" on the headstamp because you could visually tell the difference in the loads.
