Simple Reloading for a Trapdoor Rifle ?

I ran across this article at another forum, regarding reloading a trapdoor by effectively using the action as the loading press and the chamber as the die:  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

I'm interested in knowing what you all think about this.

Seems like a potential for disaster to me.
I prefer to use a Lee primer myself.

I always had a thought I would use a trapdoor action with a bushing so 310 dies could be used, But I never got it done and now trapdoor actions would make a pretty spendy reloading press. Besides being the answer to a non existant problem (but a great conversation starter)

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Oh, it might be a very handy thing to know if you're lost in the wilderness with a trapdoor and some primers, powder, bullets, and empty cases but no press or dies.  Smiley

Always carry a pocket knife and a wet stone when venturing into the wilderness. If you get lost, take it easy, set down somewhere and start sharpening your pocket knife. It won't be long till someone comes along to show you how to do it right. Then you won't be lost anymore.

Joe,

Now that sounds like some downright reasonable thinking!

Thanks, I was initially really intrigued by the concept, but couldn't get around all the nagging thoughts of "what if".  I think I'll stick with the press and dies.

Yup, when faced with a risky idea, always find a group of fellow enthusiasts to talk you out of it.  Think of the lives we save . . .

I decap BP cases like this all the time at the range with my brass hammer that I keep in the range box...
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Never tried the rest of the steps though.  Have any interest to do them? Not really but may try them ... just once  Roll Eyes

Wonder if Joe came up with the idea himself or read about it some place

As far as I know it's original with me. Maybe influenced by the article "kitchen table reloading", don't remember.
Worked for several thousands of rounds in several rifles. Never a single problem.
