The barrel threads are larger on a shotgun than on a #1.  They are smaller than a #5.

Thanks Dave. I was curious about using one of these actions for a sporting rifle with an octagon top and it appears there is not enough room there.

I agree, the threads do go deep into the receiver, at the sighting groove it is slim for sure.  Overall, total barrel+receiver thickness is aprox.302 inches. My guess is that total chamber-receiver thickness is sufficient.
