I pick up my Mod52 from CPA yesterday. They finished installing a 30" Bartlein #4 barrel in .40-50SS. While I was waiting for them to get the reamer I had them do some checkering.

That looks a lot like mine.   If I were to do it again, I'd order one with the single prong buttplate like yours.

Very nice!

Chris.

Beautiful rifle. Bets it's one heck of an off hand rifle.

Okay fellow noodlehead rkaires, tell us about the Bartlein barrel. Why Bartlein? Why 40-50? Whats the twist? How many grooves? What bullet and powder charge will you be using? Come on man, share.

Thanks guys. I have to take better pictures than I did with my phone or better yet outside. My Mod 49 will be going in next for checkering after Aprils match.

Hey Joe,

I wanted to go with a cut rifled barrel on this one. It was a tossup between Krieger, Bartlein or RKS. CPA had a Bartlein (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) in stock. Its .401 land .408 groove 1/16 twist 6 groove with narrow lands. I went with .40-50 for class 2 matches. I'll be using a 400gr Ron Long tapered spitzer breach seated.

I need to fire form a few cases next week so Ken could finish my breach seater. I have 4759, 4227, mp-300 and black to work on load development.

That 52 is so pretty I'd almost consider swapping away my original 52 for one! Very nice!
