Available Substitute for AA#9?

Print Post
The schuetzen season is upon us, the bullets are all cast and lubed, primers in hand, but AA#9 is all gone and I need a powder that will meter in a Harrell's Schuetzen.  Shooting a 222 grain 30:1 tapered bullet breech seated in a RKS barrel with a .32-40 case.  Any recommendations?

Alliant 300MP, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send you some of my test results. Unfortunately it is also hard to come by as are many others.

AA 4100 and Win 296.

It appears that Ramshot Enforcer is the same powder as AA 4100.

not sure 4759 will meter well through the Harrell measure.  Aren't the Harrells and Culvers set up specifically for the fine grain ball powders.

Jan,
When I was down there, Jerry and I visually compared Ramshot enforcer and 4100 and the size of the ball granuals is just a little different but, I still find that they have the same loading data on Western Powders site.

I guess the only way to find out is to shoot those twopowders in the same rifle, over a chrono.

Hodgdon has discontinued IMR 4759.  The 'last' shipment was shipped from Canada this year and after that is gone, it will not be made anymore.  Best to contact your reloading supplier to have them order some from their distributor because it is scarce on the shelves now

Natchezss is currently showing 300 MP in stock

I keep checking gunbot.net.  Ordered 8 lbs of 4227 on Wednesday from Powder Valley. I had to check several times a day for a couple of months before it showed up as available

Thanks for the input.

IMR 4759 most definitely does not work well in a Harrell's Schuetzen.
