What is the meaning of S.O.D. ???

There's a Winchester 32-40 High Wall barrel on ebay that has been rebored to .343, and has the letters "SOD" stamped next to the bore size.
Maybe it's- Special Order Diameter ???
Anyone care to enlighten us what those letters might stand for ????
Somebody thinks they know, as the bidding is pretty high, with about 5 days to go.

What about the letters "A.G.E." on the bottom flat?

Seller is hinting it might be a Pope, so maybe that suggestion is enough to drive up bidding.

The SOD and 343 appear to have been done by the same unsteady hand. Perhaps SOD did the rebore.

That barrel looks to have had quite a bit of gunsmithing over its life, but nothing to link it to Pope. What is the purpose of the hole ahead of the octagon to round transition on the bottom of the barrel?

Seller also guessed it might have had a cleaning rod under the barrel, like a Pacific Ballard. Gotta love the Ebay sellers who have a reason to make something good out of every bubba'd item!

Fortunately for them, there's no shortage of ebay-idiots ready, willing, & eager to believe whatever they say.

I got it, (some old dude).   Cheesy

My Helm Highwall has three screws holding the under rib on the barrel. For weight.

Yup!  eBay can be a ton of fun.  Most any large scope is a "sniper", anything over 30 thirty years old is an "antique" and anything over 50 years old is "civil war".

Someone should start a fun thread in the OT section of all the internet auction hype that's used to "encourage" buyers to believe a bubba gun/part is somehow rare and desirable! Smiley

There's so much of it, aren't you worried it might cause this site to crash?

Saw a Italian M1 clone on Gun Broker that had the Original Arsenal Grease in the action

Imagine all those years "Original" grease, be worth double to me. Store it in the Shop Fridge, so it won't melt out and ruin the value

There is a seller on e-Bay now who is apparently disassembling old single shots and putting each individual part on sale, including left and right halves of a Brown Ballard breech block!  Each part listed is described as "rare" and although the parts of a 'wall are unique to that model, this seller includes several other Winchester models in the description to get more hits.  If it doesn't sell, they just relist, often at a higher price.  I sincerely wish them frustration and failure for destroying original guns for profit!  Undecided

He is probably the same guy that is parting out antique Marlin and Winchester repeaters, also.
