The $99,000 Borchardt(??)

OK, nice engraving.  Lever...well, whatever. But, if you were going to go for broke on a Borchardt, do you think you could get the inletting right? (See close-up pic of receiver/wood fit at wrist) Or maybe get the proper base for the tang sight?  (or the correct tang sight?) Or maybe understand the item well enough to know it's NOT a double set trigger action?  Sometimes you just have to wonder... Undecided

I'll throw in a can of wood putty if you're going to be that way.

I like the double set trigger. I have not seen to many of those. I sure hope the seller gets his asking price! Ken

No need to toss in the can! I see a little of it here and there where wood almost meets metal!
I think the Ballard #6 Schuetzen lever is what makes it so valuable! Wink

Marlinguy, thanks for clarifying the value. Now I understand the $99k price tag. The old masters like Zischang and Schoyen must be rolling over in their graves, mostly with laughter over the price.

Could it be a typo???? Maybe it's suppose to read, $9900 or $9000 ( which would still be too much.      ...MIKE...

Maybe the through bolt aint tight.  Hard to believe all that hard work and money spent, the wood don't fit? Undecided

Much of the rifle is nicely done.

Pretty sure the lever is a Stevens #51.

Whoever did the write up obviously knows SBA about firearms. The only bit of Borchardt seems to be the receiver. Granted the engraving and gold inlay work looks pretty good. The woodwork looks awful, it's too heavy and I don't like the grain or the colour. Neither of the sights appear to be Sharps. It would appear that whoever ordered it made up this way couldn't make up his mind if he wanted a Schuetzen Rifle or a mid Range Target rifle. I wouldn't even stop to examine it. Bye the way G of A the Borchardt is a 19th. C. Rifle not a 20th.C. Finally please do learn the correct nomenclature for parts that protrude from the action. Sorry, it isn't worth $990.00 in my opinion, it's just a butchered Borchardt. But to have the temerity to ask $99.000.00 he must have mistaken the date it isn't the First of April or All Fools Day.

Knife in the case is a nice touch.  Was it Quigley who cut down a cartridge to fit his Sharps ?  Never know when you need a big Dude knife,

April 1st or not, it will be a very cold day in a very warm spot before this rifle sells for this price. I can't help but think that the seller lives in Colorado and has been smoking too many those funny smelling cigarettes.

I think occasionally someone gets bored, and wants to show pictures of their guns. They love what they had built, and don't really want to sell it, so they prefer to put an astronomical price on it to avoid selling.
This seems to be a case of someone just having fun showing off his rifle, and making sure nobody will want to buy it from him. I can't see how a person couldn't get a better Borchardt built for less than 5% of his price.
