ASSRA Ruger #1

Been here before on this a couple years ago.

Ruger #1, ASSRA #82 or 100 (action only) made for ASSRA in 1986(?) at the direction of Bill Ruger for charter members of ASSRA.
Purchased at auction in 2011 for $450.00 + 10%. Douglass .32-40 Premium XX barrel, 26.5 inch half round / half octagon 1/16 twist and Kepplinger single set trigger.

Does anyone know anything more than above?  Especially WHO the #82 charter member is.  I would like to document the rifles history.

Thanks for any assistance.

The actions were not number matched to the life members but sold on a first come got the lower number.  I am life member 82 and have action number 34.

AH HA!  Thank you. There goes that plan on documentation.  I have always read that that was the intent of Bill Ruger when he developed the idea.

Perhaps you ever heard of Rolland Alexander 'Buddy' Sombart  of Amoret Missouri who passed away 01-Nov-2010. It was his estate auction where I purchased the Ruger #82.  Don't know if he was an ASSRA member or not, but believe it to be a 99% probability.

I looked into thins a few years back and communicated with the Assra Treasurer who was in office at that time. As he recalled it; when the actions were made available Life Members were given first crack at the number that matched their life member ship number for a limited time.  Some took advantage of that, most did not. Many/most were more oriented to "original" actions (which were more commonly available back then). I was told that only a couple dozen went to life-members on the first go-round.
Remember that the Ruger Single shot was designed and marketed by Bill Ruger as an English-style hunting rifle rather than as a schuetzen-style target rifle.
After the life member had their chance, the remaining actions were offered on a first-come first-serve basis to the general membership.  Almost all were sold on that basis.  the remaining dozen or so were purchased by one member who gradually sold them off.

After the actions were sold the members were sent a list of the buyers, it was a sheet inserted into a newsletter.  May still have it here in the files.

HA.  Interesting.  I too keep records going back to the mid 60's.
All I would like to know is who purchased #82 and city. Not to compromise anyone's personal privacy or security.
My name is Carl B. Robertson, Grain Valley Mo. Retired LEO, Viet Nam 101 & ASA Vet with service connected disability.

Mr. Robertson, thanks for introducing yourself, and most of all, thank you for your service during an extremely difficult period in our Nation's struggle to sustain freedom around the World.

Mr. Robertson,I have searched for the list I had but cannot find it. The news reported that the then secretary of ASSRA Larry Thompson of Salem Ohio recieved the Ruger actions and he mailed them out to the purchasers. You might get his address from ASSRA and write him and see if he still has the mailing list.  Hope this helps a bit.   Tom
