Sounds like a description of a single shot BPCR. Wayne

	Wayne, I'm no expert at all on slug guns, but I'd like to be one day . Basically they are benchrest muzzleloaders. The most accurate black powder groups ever shot have been done with them. They are typically extremely heavy, and use false muzzles for shooting cross patched bullets that are often made of two pieces. The rear of the bullet is soft lead, and the nose a harder alloy to prevent deformation. They are the cat's pajamas for black powder accuracy. I will find some links and send them to you. Chris.

Chris, Thanks for the additional details. Although I'm interested please don't go to a lot of trouble looking for links as I'll never take up the sport. I've got way too many irons in the fire now and BPCR is my main sport. Wayne

	I was reading thru some past issues of the Cast bullet yesterday and came across a article by Merrill Martin in issue NO 132 April 1998. He used a eight foot box, assembled with no metal hardware so he could use a metal detector to find his bullets instead of spending a evening looking for the bullet. He used a product called Floor Sweep, green in color and say's it will stop bullets micrometer perfect, he also said not to use the red colored product as it is to hard on the bullets. He said he has stopped .375 and .458 mag. solids as well as 30-06 armor piercing, he only found one bullet that would make it to the end but not penetrate the box and that was a 44 250 gr SWC. 	8 mm mauser rifle bullets were studied fired into water once. It seems that they lost their velocity in about 3-4 feet. Saw this on TV once awhile back. When I was in medical school in the 60's, I went over to the ballistics lab in the basement of Parkland Hospital where they had a bullet trap consisting of a long trough about 12 feet long with cardboard baffles about every 6 inches separated with packed cotton, the trap made out of 1X12 planks. The technician wanted samples of a Colt 1849 fired bullet. After we put the fire out, it seemed like a good idea not to use black powder anymore. He was overjoyed with the fired bullet after the smoke cleared. James
