Period Cased Remington Hepburn B ...

Attached are a few photos of my Remington Hepburn Grade B Match rifle.  The caliber is marked, "40.65" ahead of the forearm, but under the forearm it is stamped, "40.65.ST.SHELL" which makes is 40-70 Sharps Straight.  The gun is in excellent mechanical condition with a almost mint bore.  The case came with a handful of original cartridges and a few spent brass cartridges.  It has an Ideal re- de-capper, Ideal reloading tool with Bullet Mould, original Remington wad cutter marked "40" and an original Remington shell sizer die.  This wasn't some late assembled shooter's set.  It's like it was used in the day, put aside and forgotten.

That's a beautiful setup.  It's nice to see the original accessories are still there.  Have you used it?

Wow ! The cased set is great and really ads to the rifle. I must say that it would be hard to find a nicer Hepburn. Case looks outstanding as does the blue and wood. Outstanding find.

Joe Doe,

Congratulations on a great find. Treasure it, you've used up about five years good luck finding and buying that rifle. Roll Eyes

VERY NICE. I saw that on Gunbroker ,I have currently also been bitten by the Hepburn bug after stumbling into a Match B in a LGS (in Canada) a couple years ago . I am enjoying shooting it , and am also enjoying Tom Rowe's new book.Lots of onfo there that is tying together some questions I Had .Origionally 32-40 , and I am now convinced it was sent back to Remington and re-bored to 38-55 as they offered this service and it has all the correct markings ( altho I wish it was still in 32-40 )
Please let us know how it shoots

Gorgeous gun, and a wonderful set of accessories with it! I always wondered why Remington used so many different caliber markings for the same cartridge during the late 1800's? Seems they couldn't settle on a std. marking, and kept trying different ways to mark the same caliber.

Can you post a close up of that clamp looking thing on the left?  What is it? Barrel clamp?

I hate you sir.........

You know I'm kidding!  Beautiful piece of history. Cherish its history and craftsmanship. They definitely don't make them like that anymore. I would hock my house in an instant for it.
