Interesting 11959 single shot article

Ran across this article while doing some searching, and got distracted by it. Found it a little humorous they mention in 1959 that single shot rifles are still in demand.
Look under "The Single-Shot Rifle Saga" in the index page.

Thanks for posting that.  I have a few old articles I found on the NY Times website covering the old schuetzen matches.  I'll have to post links sometime.

Thanks Marlinguy,
A reminder of my early years of shooting when handguns were legal here and you could buy BP by the can over the counter without a Firearms Certificate and elaborate storage conditions set out by the Local Police Chief. As usual with any old gun mag the prices make you weep, but, then so did the wages back then.

A very pleasant time filler on a quite Sunday morning.

Thanks for a super resource.  I totally enjoyed reading it and will try to keep it available to reread repeatedly!  One question, though... do any of our IL members know whether the old schuetzen club mentioned in the article as having hosted the first "national" match still exists in one form or another?

Actually I hadn't seen that one, but they were from the same archives.  I saved my favorite one as a PDF, but haven't been able to find the link again.

Thanks for posting this one.  It'll give me something else to read on this snowy day.

Chris.

I found the link again.  It's one of the more interesting ones I found as it goes into some detail on the the Farrow.

That Farrow rifle described in that article fits the Farrow I have perfectly, other than it is most likely a 38 cal. based on the bullet weight.
Does anyone know what is was about Wurfflein rifles that allowed them to be shot multiple shots without cleaning?
I've read that about them in other old articles too.
Thanks for posting that link Chris.

As far as Illinois, Highland Illinois had a world class club back in the day. Large Swiss settlement. Not sure if this is the one you are referring too. They still have a Rifle and Pistol Club but it is not associated with the old Schuetzen organization.
