Have seen some early Lyman and Marbles tang sights for the #2 that had the base arched to match the curvature of the tang.
Probably depended on the individual who installed the sight.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading, the few who learn by observation, and the rest who have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves.

The rollstamps on #2 Rem. barrels dictate the era the gun was made. That rollstamp was the third one used, and should date your gun to the 1870's to 1886 era. Definitely a blackpowder era #2. The final #2's were sold in 1909, and did not have the "& Sons" on the rollstamp.

Marlinguy-
Do you think this was made before, during or after the receivership of Remington? I assume it would be before, or during, since I doubt the new owners wanted the old E. Remington name on the barrel. Just another reason I like the oldies, character Cool
Thanks....Amanda

Remington stopped the use of E. Remington & Sons in 1888.  Remington Arms Co began 1889 and continued through 1910.
