This baby's gonna need a bit of TLC :

What a shame for this; it appears to be in 40-60 WCF.
Has to be a rare chambering.

Nothing wrong that a few hours with a fine laser welder couldn't rectify, a new set of stocks and a lot of TLC with hand tools and you'll have a good looking rifle.  Roll Eyes

It never ceases to amaze me how a rifle can get that bad. I have an original ML Schuetzen that spent most of it's life hanging over the shrimp boiling pot at a restaurant hence the nickname "the shrimp gun". It looks better than that Hepurn.

Harry,

You and I can see the potential. I have brought back some old single shots that were in similar condition. An example is seen on Tree Bone Carvings web sight at the bottom of the rolling block section. I hate to see one left in a neglected condition when they can be resurrected.

It doesn't look all that bad to me. Long as the barrel is good and the action isn't ruined ... it could be a pretty decent "shooter" and at least 4 people think enough of it to bid.

Looks PLENTY bad to me, but you're right, it would make a satisfactory shooter for someone not bothered too much by the cosmetic problems.  Of course you could dress it up with lots of brass tacks & call it an Indian gun!

Most folks want more than 'just a shooter'. Only have about $3900 in my Hepburn and it did not need any heavy duty metal restoration. New barrel, 3x wood and some engraving can certainly be cost drivers. The nice thing about a Hepburn is there are few enough originals that they generally hold their value when the work is done well. Guess when I'm too old to shoot it I'll find out. Wink

That's true...most folks do; not so sure most of them would place "only" ahead of $3900.

I love Hepburns, but realistically the price on this one is high enough that even if you can do the many hours of weld repair to the pitted receiver, it's still not worth it to me.
My last two Hepburns both had issues, and I gave $700 for a barreled action for one, and $850 for the 2nd with a chopped down barrel. I am under $1400 into each of them. (without counting any of my own labor) I don't think you could save this one and not end up into it way more than finding a nice average Hepburn that didn't need any work.
