Which 25 cal.

Acquired a Stevens 44 - 47 with double sets in 25-20ss yesterday.  Barrel is bad so I will need to rebarrel but would like opinions on which 25 caliber to chamber in.  I have dies for 25-20win. , 25-20ss, and 25-21 and some cases for each (I have had rifles for each in the past). I do not have a reamer for any of them so I would try to rent one but I have not seen any in 25-21 .
Is there any pros or cons as to which case to use.

Thanks  Dales

As much as I like my 25-20WCF, if it were my Stevens rifle I would probably stay with the original caliber.

I think all three .25's you mention are equally capable of fine accuarcy. I don't know that any one of them has an edge on the others, it just takes some time to work things out.

Is your chamber standard or do you have a special throat  ?

Much harder to find .25-20 SS cases compared to .25-20 WCF cases.

Nothing special about the reamer used on my rifle. It was a borrowed/used lever gun reamer. I don't remember who made the reamer but I can find out if needed, I think. Let me know.

Of course you could try a new breech seating quarterbore caliber:

25 RKS

All you need is a .223 FL sizing die.

Jerry - how many 250s to-date with your 25-20WCF?

Also a discussion on the .25 Krag in another thread that might interest the OP.

Dave I wonder if the 25RKS will qualify under the Quarter Bores traditional rules. Hopefully Ken will drop in to answer the question.

For the ISSA Quarterbore competitions you are restricted to using plain base cast bullets in single shot rifles. The 25 RKS can be used in these competitions.

The Traditional Quarterbore guys restrict to original quarterbore cartridges; such as the .25-20 SS and .25 WCF etc.
