Lyman Sharps M1878 Ad

Did anyone else notice that Lyman/Pedersoli have an advertisement on Page 50 of the Jan/Feb 2014 Journal for a new Sharps Model 1878 ?

Odd, but I do believe that is a Model 1877. At least my 1878 does not look anything like that, more like the ones on the front cover. Roll Eyes

Strange ad for sure. The 1878 designates the sight provided on the rifle, not the rifle model.  Very strange.

Just goes to show you how into the game the employees are. I'm sure dozens of people had a hand in naming that rifle, but not one picked up on it.       ...MIKE...

Gentlemen,

Lyman is well aware of the difference between the Model 1877 and 1878. They chose the 1878 designation because that is when the Lyman company was founded. Since the rifle is similar, but not identical to the 1877, it would seem to me that they can be given some slack as how they decided to name it  Smiley

They can name it whatever they want.  People will buy anything.

I'm holding out for a "real" 77----the only Sharps I've ever wanted,  or an Axtell rendition of one.
