Looks real with some odd-ball wood, trigger guard and hammer. If I see it correctly, the hammer has been lightened by grinding off both sides. From where the side-lever sits when the block is up it has something bent or torqued on the mechanism. Not a big deal to fix. The $895 BIN price that it sold for is probably reasonable or a bit high. Not making any more originals. Wink

Wasn't out there long before someone snatched it.  Not really enough photos.  (No stampings,  no real info)  I didn't see it before it was gone.   Wondered if it was some sort of early prototype   or if Harlow had been at work.

"schützen buttplate"???  "Bullet ding from gunfight".  Maybe not Harlow,  but can I smell PT Barnum's elephants.

and what was the hole, or whatever, on the bottom flat at the muzzle fore---screw on muzzle rest maybe.

AS I recall that prototype of Dick Binger has a longer lower (JMHO) more graceful side lever.

It's definately not a Hepburn as we know them.  Prototype??  Maybe!  Look at the picture of the top view of the hammer and breechblock.  The hammer is very narrow while the breechblock seems quite wide.Trigger is pinned in a different spot than the Hepburns and the extractor looks to be on the right instead of the left.  It looks to cobby to have been made by Remington.
And if that's a bullet hit on the stock from a gunfight, I'll bet CSI could find some blood with DNA and trace it back to the original dead owner. Grin

I don't believe it is or ever was a Remington Hepburn. More likely a individual's copy of a Hepburn done at home, and from the looks of it, with fairly rudimentary tools. Missing all the contours, pins, screws, etc. of a real Hepburn, and just a very crude copy.
Of course if it was one of LL Hepburn's prototypes, I seriously doubt it would have been that crude considering he worked for Remington, and had access to all their facility when building the prototype.

If I view it as if the lever is absent, it seems to remind me more of one of the large frame H&A shotguns rather than a Hepburn, considering the action profile, hammer profile, narrow hammer width and narrow hammer slot in the frame.
Would have expected to see a picture of the E Rem and Sons roll mark on the barrel but no picture showing such was provided.
My 2 cents.

BP - I think you are right,  I saw a H&A at the world's foremost outfitters yesterday,  It looked like that "Hepburn"  on GB.

Look at it this way, for possibly $485 you could have the ultimate wallhanger - no one could ever guess what it is and it might well will any "ugliest gun" contest. You could have a plaque made up for it that says it is a very rare example of a Frankenburn and all your gun collecting buddies could come over and admire it and wish they too could own one......

Or, when your buddies come over to examine your purchase, they can start thinking to themselves "WOW, the next time he pulls out the cheap booze and gets into the gun buying mood, I can probably get rid of that..."
