New old Hepburn update

Howdy All,

Was pleased to purchase this rifle off of SSDave when it was recently listed in the for sale section. It is a 38-55 with a super heavy barrel. After a good cleaning the gun works perfectly and I took it out to the range for the first time today while at a BPCR Silhouette match. Dave had described the bore as OK and I would rate it as really darn good. It weighs somewhere over 14# so is not legal for silhouette but it is a hoot to shoot. Had some thrown together loads to fireform some brass and it creamed the pigs pretty well. You can see how heavy the barrel is- I have it next to my Ballard silhouette rifle with a 1" heavy round barrel that weighs in right at 12#. The original long-range rear sight works perfectly and it had a original remington wind gauge base that an axtell replica screwed into like it was made for it. This is my first Hepburn and I am really happy to give it a new place on the range.

Zack,

I am pleased to have you using that rifle.  I told you the barrel would shoot!  That is about as unique a Hepburn as you will find.

Indeed, Hepburns are very nice rifles. Especially like that you have the DST with yours. Have my single-trigger down to less than 2#, so is pretty nice, but not like the DST. Sometimes I wish I only had one rifle as I miss shooting the Hepburn, but am sticking to the one rifle for BPCR (High Wall) in an effort to improve my scores/classification. Will use the Hepburn for the BPTR matches, but only shoot 6 of them per year as opposed to 16 BPCR matches.

Here's a blow-up of your last pic.
