In BPCR shooting a 30" would be the minimum. Since this is mostly long range shooting, and usually iron sights, the longer barrels have a real advantage. I'd want at least a 30", and preferably a 32". But if you're also wanting to occasionally hunt with it, then the 32" will encumber you, and be a literal pain to pack around the extra weight and length.
If you're using it for both target work, and hunting, the 30" would probably be the best compromise.

After looking at some single shots at a few shops and shows, I found most needed some work to shoot.  Especially the trapdoors I could find.  Finally I decided to buy a Wesson Harrington Buffalo Classic in 45-70 with a 32 inch barrel.  It came with a globe front sight and a Pedersoli long range poorly mounted on the stock.  The rifle was not fired much and in excellent condition.  Got a new sight base and corrected the mount job as best I could.  Now studying up on reloading BPC.  And for a retired guy the price fit the budget.  So begins my humble entry into the world of BPCRifles!   Thanks much again for all your suggestions!
