A friend has inherited a Johann Jacob Kuchenreuter rifle, I've taken pics of it for him and am trying to get history and value info for him.

It's been broken and repaired, but comes with a great story.

The guys grandfather was in WWII in Leipzig Germany and they were at a church or school in the city.
It took about an hour to get into the basement of the building where they found a vault, then about a day to get through the vault doors.

Inside were 7 of these rifles. Grandpa got one and shipped it back to Columbus Ohio. It was broken in transit and repaired by a fellow in Pickerington Ohio.
This one has the number 5 on the buttplate.

From what I could find online, the Kuchenreuter family made fine weapons for wealthy customers and royalty. I found a similar rifle in the Royal Collection of QEII here (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

The rifle pics are on this page but they're huge and take a bit to load (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

If you know someone who might know about these rifles please email them the link to the page.

I'm doing the research work in hopes that the owner will sell me a Mauser 98 rifle he also obtained from Grandpa, seen here (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) so any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Brian
