32-20 to 25-20 Any forming problems?

     Hi:

      What problems if any, may I expect when I form 25-20 brass from 32-20 brass?

       I have reformed rifle brass for many years but I have not formed small rifle brass.  Will I have to do the neck sizing in two steps? Will the shoulder crumple when the neck is reduced etc.?

      Suggestions?

Hopefully you will be using new brass. Most likely it would be a good idea to anneal your brass before you get started. My suggestion would be to take your seating die and run your brass into that die first and then into your full length die.
This question was asked by someone else a while back. As an experiment I took a used 32-20 case, annealed it and ran it into a 218 bee seating die and then the full length die and didnt have any problems. Another case I had, had a small crack at the case mouth and when I ran it into the dies it buckeled and folded. Annealing first is probably your best safe bet, other than that you shouldn't have any problems at all.

If the 32/20 is Starline it needs to be anealed for sure. Winchester may work but still best to aneal  30 Krag to 25 Krag even anealed I go 7mm 260 then 25 3 steps instead of one, but thats another thing longer case more bottleneck

Other than what has been recommenced in the posts:
Step 1 - Rub the 32-20 LIGHTLY with your finger using a good lube. If you goop the case up heavily - it will put a crease in the case.  I use Bag Balm which is lanolin to reform many different caliber brass.
Bag Balm at this drug store - others or on line ... (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links);
Step 2 - Pull the press ram down SLOWLY, or you will crunch the case
Step 3 - Be sure to lower the ram all the way to the rim to squeeze the case web to it's proper size.  The web is the case 'fat' area just before the rim
Step 4 - Then test the FIRST reformed 25-20 case in you rifle chamber for proper fit
Then compare the 25-20 reformed case measurements to those that I posted to you previously

BTW - Do you know how to properly anneal a brass case?
