Help with Schuetzen sight
Jan 21st, 2014 at 2:20pm
Print Post
I am new to the forum. I need help to ID a rear Schuetzen sight. I am not sure of the origin, how ever my father served in the European theater during WWII, so it may have come from there.
The eyepiece is aprox. 1.870" in diam. elevation and windage screw are square drive. the mounting post is triangular in shape.
I tried to attaches pictures but the files are to large and I couldn't get it done. Since I have no idea how to compress or other wise modify the files to fit, I would ask that anyone willing or wanting to help to email me and I will sent photos.
Not really the best option, but I don't know any other way.
Thanks for any help.
Dave

I would presume they are for a German or Austrian schuetzen rifle, similar to this one . The second picture is the sight off this Aydt.

Here is a picture of a sight on a Aydt Rifle. The second picture is a schuetzen on a Martini action.

Most of the schuetzens I have looked at use a square post to anchor the rear sight to the sight boss on the rifles upper action tang.  that looks like a full blown complete sight with the screw-in disc as well as the slot sight with the little range adjustment tab.
It seems like someone posted a Schuetzen---maybe a stalking rifle version-- not too long ago that has a boss with triangular post-hole. You might search back over the past couple months for pictures

you might contact Mr.  Bill Loos  he's pretty much the "go to guy" when It comes to those sights---I'll PM you.

I've seen many similar sights on European schuetzen style rifles, but I've never seen one with that triangle post for mounting! Very cool old sight!

For anyone needing one, a round disc version is for sale currently on eBay.
