Head size of the 6.5X53R is the same as the 303 British. Correct?
Which? Rim width - diameter or both?
And why do you ask?

Head size. The base size. I ask for the sake of accurate information.

Westerner, the 6.5x53R comes in 2 different calibers: 0.296 & 0.294.  The bases, rim diameter and rim width's are different

So instead of guessing, here is a Conversion Table that you can put in your references for analysis...

Assuming the numbers you offer are groove diameters?  I cant open the links you provided. Assuming this small version of the 6.5X53R Mannlicher is plentiful? Where do we get it? Not guessing, asking.

Went through all my books, can't find them. Cannot find any 6.5 casing with a head diameter close to the 32-40.

Can you send the links in PDF?

The tables are not in pdf format, only xls and cvs
The alternative then if you don't have Excel is to buy a copy of the Conversions Handbook

I have that book. Shows one 6.5X53R Mannlicher. Will take another look tomorrow.

Tend to think the number is scarce, even if it does have the correct head size. Have read about making 6.5X53R from 303 Brit on other forums.

Joe, the conversion table I have, 1409 calibers, shows that the 303 British parent case is the 30-40 Krag
303 British
Rim Diameter - 0.53
Rim Width - 0.064
Length - 2.21

The 6.5x43R:
Rim Diameter - 0.53
Rim Width - 0.043
Length - 2.10
So using a 303 as the parent case for the 6.5, the case length would have to be trimmed and the rim width would have to be turned down

There are 3 in the table I have:
                                        Parent
65X53R Dutch Mannlicher      6.5x53R Mannlicher (basic)
65X53R Dutch Mannlicher      6.5x53R Mannlicher
65X53R Dutch Mannlicher      6.5x53R Mannlicher

Okay, so how do you make 32-40 brass from 303 Brit, 30-40 Krag or 6.5X53R?

I don't see a base/head dimension in your post.

The 303 British & 30-40 Krag ARE NOT PARENT CASES for the the 32-40!
                        Parent Case
32-40 Bullard      6.5x53R Mannlicher  0.315
32-40 Remington Hepburn 6.5x53R Mannlicher 0.308

You edited the quote, John.  Your information is in-accurate.

Think we've mangled this thread enough.

Joe actually it can be done, I've swaged 2 or three 30/40's into 32/40, the same way that I do the 32/35 from 30/30. It only takes about 30 min a case after you make the tooling but, std ones don't take any time Smiley

I did it to get a thicker neck and a slightly reduce case capacity. It's a lot of work but, it hasn't proven to be better than std 32/40. It probably makes a longer lasting case. I'll show them to you in Spokane, if you like.

Thank you, Frank, for an intelligent post.  I've done it too but was a lot of bother. Not everyone has the know how and tools to do the work. 6.5X53R is about the worst casing out there to try to make 32-40 from. If you could find any.

RSW has the best and easiest solution.

I have been looking for new unprimed Winchester 32-40 cases for some time. Seems like almost everyone is out of stock and not sure if Winchester will ever make more. Well my searching has paid off. I was able to get 250 cases from
precisionreloading. Not sure how much they have left so the early bird gets the worm
