Drawing of .38-50 Remington-Hepburn:

When I make them from Winchester .303 British cases they end up being only 2.170" long.
When I make them from R.P. or Federal .303 British cases they end up being only 2.190" long.
Can get full length .38-50 cases if you make them from .30-40 Krag cases.

Thanks, all. See that the two major dimensional differences compared to the 38-55 are diameter (0.454 - 0.421 = 0.033") and length (2.230 - 2.129 = 0.101"). Sort of like the difference between the 40-65 and 40-70SS or 45-70 and 45-90. Probably make an excellent dual purpose Scheutzen and BPCR/BPTR silhouette/mid-range rifle. At least I hope so, as that is my plan.

You can definitely fit a fair bit more powder into the .38-50 than in Starline long brass for the .38-55.  I imagine it must be pretty similar to your .38-56 though.  I've started with 58gr of FFFg Express and am using only .100" compression using the Baco tapered money bullet.  I'll probably move the charge up a couple of grains I suspect.
