Chemicals rule?

Print Post
Was at a range yesterday. Was told by the range officer that no chemicals are allowed on the shooting bench. He noticed my bottle of Hoppes.  I asked him when the rule was created. He told me a couple years ago and that was when they installed tables behind the red line.  Sorta thought something was amiss by his demeanor and the fact that the tables have been there as long as I can remember.  Moved my bottle of Hopes off my bench and went on shooting.  Biggi took the time to read all the posted rules. I've been using the range and past member since 1993 so thought I knew all the rules. Biggi tells me there is no rule about chemicals on the bench. Biggi confronts the RSO about the rule not being on the board. I asked him why the rule was not on the board. He told me the range officer told him to do it. I told him I didn't believe him. Made for a very uncomfortable situation. Posted rules say updated Dec 3 2012
I always clean my rifles bore before it comes off the bench and into the case.
Anybody ever hear of a chemicals rule at a range?

Never heard of such a case.. and frankly, can't imagine why anyone would make such a rule.

I would say your situation fell under "Rule 20" though.

I would be fascinated to hear what that clubs E-Board had to say about why that rule (if it indeed is one) was created, and why it was not listed on the rule-board.

I asked the RO if it was his own judgement call. He said it was not. Would have made sense to me if it had been his call. All the BS was what threw me and made the situation uncomfortable.

Flashing red lights?  Bad as any public range.  Even without such an idiot rule, I'd be looking for another place to shoot.

Closest range to me and it's still a sixty mile round trip.  Correction, 64.8 miles.

One club I shot at in PA had a NO Glass containers allowed on the shooting bench, that is only bench restriction I've ever run into.

Joe,

What I thought odd about that range were those benches.  Could be room for 10 regular benches at the 200 yd range instead of those 4 monstrosities.  Good thing it was not too crowded when we went.  I can't imaging trying to shoot on a weekend.

at EG we have no restrictions as to what you put on or under or beside your bench that I'm aware of.   other than getting off the firing line and staying off the concrete line between relays, actions open and chambers flagged kind of match management rules.   About the only rule I can think of is "no smoking on the firing line" none of the other ranges, at least 4 within 30 miles of my house, have rues about what can and can't be on your bench.
Sounds like "Nanny rules the range" or is trying to. Maybe the RSO was having a "authority issue bad hair day".  Have you verified it with the managing parties yet?

Wonder what the definition of chemical is.  Wipe it with something that's not.  Plain water, that will throw them for a loop.

Whoops looked it up water is a chemical, be a good thing to argue though.

My heart bleeds!

I used to have a 40 mile round trip to my range, and usually had two rifles, two pistols, a box of ammo, groundsheet, cleaning stuff and often more, which I carried on a bicycle...

Now I know who you are!  Took me a while to figure it out. You're Lance Armstrong, aren't you!?

Speaking of chemicals, is it now legal to smote pot at the range in CO, OR and WA?
