I called the company this morning. Rumor is correct. 4759 will be going out of production at the end of 2014.

Well, thanks for confirming that! Time to make the switch to 4227 as Boats suggested ... as least for the non-smokey loads that is Wink ...

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

Email I received when asking about 4756 being discontinued:

Yes this powder along with 4759, PB and 7625 will be discontinued by the end of 2014. I can understand that you are disappointed but there are many reasons why we are discontinuing including outdated technology, high manufacturing costs and low sales.  Appreciate your interest and business

I'm ready to trade the 6-7 lbs of 4759 I have for 4227.

That's a shame.  SR-4759 is about the only smokeless powder I use in my cast bullet rifles these days.

In the black powder rifles I've already had to switch from Goex Cartridge, to Goex Express, and then to Old Eynsford when the Express runs out.  Sometimes I think that Hodgdons keeps an eye on what I buy so they know what to discontinue next Smiley Smiley

I found a good (hey, it's all relative now) price on an 8 pound keg of 4759 at Midsouth. Probably my most used powder. In the rifles I shoot it in it shoots better than 4227.

Guys and Gals,
I like the 4759, too, but 4227 works extremely well, and meters much better.

Also,

Take a look at AA 5744 -VERY similar to 4759

And, Reloader 7 is excellent for many straight wall cases and also Meters Well.

May be, if the Chinese N.S.A. folks are listening in here, they will pick it up, produce the heck out of it, and ship it to WalMart for our consumption.

Hear that Mr. Chairman ?  ?  ?

YIKES, I thought SR 4759 would have been a good seller to us cast bullet guys. Along with my Black powder rifles, I used it in most of my pre 1945 Military rifles for reduced loads for two reasons:
1. Why take a chance with a valuable older gun?
2. At my age, who needs the recoil?

Will 4227 work in reduced, say .30-06 loads?

I use 4198 in my 30-06 and 30-40 with a 190 grain cast bullet.  Works great.  Also, use both 4759 and 4198 in my 38-55 Model-1894.  I've used 4227 in the 45-70, but don't anymore, just black powder and/or duplex in my old rifles.
