Win A5/Lyman 5A mount options?

Hello:  I have one each in VG condition, but for whatever reason they are the scope tube/bodies only (complete), yet with no mounts. The other one of each that I have are complete with mounts.

Looking at my 'collection' of stuff, I really don't need scope-bodies-without-mounts lying around. Specially if/when the fund$ could be used for other toys!

Are there any other mount options than the 'replacement' (ye gads!) Malcolm-type mounts that Midway sells for ~$260 for 3/4" tubes? Also, what would you place the value of the scope bodies alone at, as is?

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

I'm seriously interested in your A5.  Would appreciate a PM on price.

Maybe MVA will sell you the mounts.  I have one of their B5 scopes an it's quite nice.  I might be incorrect, but I understand that it's an accurate reproduction of the original.

Somewhere there must be a "rat hole" of old target rings. There seems to be lots of old scopes, and many nice ones, that are without rings.

Shutzenbob...I have wondered that myself..... Back when I thought I might still be a competitive shooter (long, long, ago...) it seemed as though every 3/4 inch scope I saw had mounts from a Super Targetspot.

OK, I got you a fix.

Google DZ Arms and buy the rings and get the bolt on artificial rib/stop from Buffalo Arms.

This is a good setup, very repeatable, and user friendly.

Best, DB

I have a set of DZ Arms mounts on one of my 28" MVA scopes and highly recommend them. They are very user-friendly and repeatable.

Probably the same rat hole that has all the swiss butt plates, set trigger tangs and parts, sights and other parts that we're all looking for.

I have a rear mount for the Lyman Super Target Spot. It is in very good condition but I cannot turn the adj. knobs. It was on a scope I bought many years ago and since I was given a replacement I didn't bother to attack the problem with vise grips which would have been my usual course of action. I have no idea what would happen if I removed those tiny screws.

Loosening the three tiny screws on each graduated dial allows you to rotate the dial to the "zero" mark while the knobs stay stationary on the mount.

Very late production--can't imagine why it would be locked up when in such good cond.  You're sure the binding screw is loose?

Vise-grips are good for this kind of work, but I lean toward a hammer & chisel myself.

Now I know where all those barrels with vise jaw marks came from!

If the pinch screw located on the right side between the adjusting knobs has been tightened that effecivley locks up both adjustment knobs. If it was done long enough ago and there was light grease in the adjusment screws under the knobs it will dry up and become practically a Locktight. The cure for this is to make sure the pinch screw is backed off. Then hose it down with some penetrating oil type. And then let it sit for week or two and occasionally hose it down again before trying to move the adjustment knobs. Stay away from the Vise grips and give it some time. HTH. Regards, FITZ. Smiley
