Ran out of room.

The bullet. Bullet is from a cold mold so doesn't look to sharp.

Mold is also adjustable for length of bullet.

Thanks Joe that is real interesting.  I wonder why the base plug makes a flat ended rather than conical or hemispherical cavity.   Maybe Frank was copying some original bullets.

I know a while back, just when I was starting to get hooked on the european rifles, there was some talk on another another forum of a group design/buy for an SR bullet but, as I recall it bogged down over the the issue of the "over there" originals having hollow bases and the USA mold producer not wanting to try to do it that way.

Joe,

Is it a hollow base?  If so does it ever blow the bottom ring?

Neat old mold.  Do you shoot bullets from it or is just a museum piece?

Biggi and I have been using the Zika bullets in our German rifles.  Have not tried it cast as a hollow base. I adjusted the base plug to show how it works.  Would think if the skirt is to long and thin it would blow out.

DW,  the round rod that makes the bullet base hollow can be turned end for end. The end shown is flat, the other end has a radius. Could make it any shape I want in the lathe.

Try them some time,  might be interesting Wink  From my brief look at the old catalogue pages, a fair number of the original swedged bullets offered by the german supply houses were hollow based.
I wonder if that was a carry over from BP ML minie' style bullets----"the way we did it when I was young" kind of thing. or if it had actual advantage with the reduced base diameter needed to insert into the case?

Currently using hollow base bullets in three original percussion schuetzen rifles. Have had leading problems using plain base bullets in barrels with a lot of taper or choke bored.   No leading with the hollow base bullets.
