Dave, I don't intend to use the scope for NRA BPCR Silhouette... Ridgeway R&PC has a 1000yd High Power Silloutte range.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links) There is no stipulation that the rifle has to be a bolt gun
3.1 High Power Silhouette Rifle A rifle, 6mm or larger caliber, meeting the following specifications:
(a) Maximum weight 10 pounds, 2 ounces, including sights
(b) Any sights, telescopic or metallic may be used. Scopes may not be more than 2 inches above the rifle as measured from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope tube, nor may the scope be offset from the top center line of the receiver
3.17 Ammunition- Centerfire ammunition having a projectile (bullet) of 6mm or larger caliber but no armor piercing or tracer types are permitted.
Nothing in the NRA rules says it can't be a single shot ("A rifle") with lead bullets. The CPA with scope makes the weight & scope height limitations.
Anyway, probably not many matches and didn't want to invest $2.5 - $4,000 for a 6mmBr with a Leupold scope, tricked out. But when I go to Ridgway for a week at a time, I've always had a burning itch to knock down a coyote at 1000. Last May I took my K-31, stock open sights, up to the range and did manage with many sighters within inches to put a couple over. The crows at 700yds - different story.
So I figured, a 20X Unertl on the CPA using smokeless 40-65 or 45-70's on barrels that I have would be just the ticket to to enjoy shooting these steels ... plus more center hits on Homer, the 1000yd buffalo
