I love the Unertl but I thought the NRA Black Powder Silhouette was restricted to scopes with a maximum 1 inch objective and could not have indexing adjusters.

Does the long range have different rules?

Would be a fabulous scope for the Schuetzen game.

Dave, I don't intend to use the scope for NRA BPCR Silhouette... Ridgeway R&PC has a 1000yd High Power Silloutte range.
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
There is no stipulation that the rifle has to be a bolt gun
3.1 High Power Silhouette Rifle
A rifle, 6mm or larger caliber, meeting the following specifications:
(a) Maximum weight 10 pounds, 2 ounces, including sights
(b) Any sights, telescopic or metallic may be used. Scopes may not be more than 2 inches above the rifle as measured from the top of the receiver to the underside of the scope tube, nor may the scope be offset from the top center line of the receiver
3.17 Ammunition-
Centerfire ammunition having a projectile (bullet) of 6mm or larger caliber but no armor piercing or tracer types are permitted.
Nothing in the NRA rules says it can't be a single shot ("A rifle") with lead bullets.  The CPA with scope makes the weight & scope height limitations.

Anyway, probably not many matches and didn't want to invest $2.5 - $4,000 for a 6mmBr with a Leupold scope, tricked out.  But when I go to Ridgway for a week at a time, I've always had a burning itch to knock down a coyote at 1000. Last May I took my K-31, stock open sights, up to the range and did manage with many sighters within inches to put a couple  over.  The crows at 700yds - different story.

So I figured, a 20X Unertl on the CPA using smokeless 40-65 or 45-70's on barrels that I have would be just the ticket to to enjoy shooting these steels ... plus more center hits on Homer, the 1000yd buffalo  Wink Smiley

John:

Sounds like lots of fun. I built a .308 for long range shooting.
Unfortunately the longest range in my neighborhood is only 600 yards.
So I cannot buy that Unertl off you. Have a 15X UltraVarmit plus cash I could trade. I need the target scope for what I do.

Dave, sorry but this 20x Unertl is going to be a keeper.  Just too many nice things going for it - 1, the condition - 2, the power - 3, I don't have a 20X and 4, don't believe I could find a 20x with the extra eye piece for the price I paid

I have been looking for one for a long time.
Even harder to find in Canada.
Great find John.

Occasionally the 20x Unertl's come up on the Canadian Gun Nutz ( I know it's an odd name Smiley web site.  I recently bought one from a fellow in the interior of B.C., and bought an 18x from someone on the site a while back.  They go quite quickly though as both of mine were bought within a couple of hours of them being listed.  I was just lucky on the timing.

A 20 power scope with an extra 20 power eyepiece.  Don't understand that part.  Whats the point/advantage?

Happy birthday, Bub.

What is the extra eye piece for?  Is it a booster? Just an extra eye piece?

You mount the extra eyepiece behind the first eyepiece to get 40 power? Huh

What is the extra eye piece for John? Just an extra?  Will it boost a lower power scope?  Think I'm going to reach my 5000 post threshold goal on this thread. Boats is stuck at 4999.

Joe - A No Go.  One would need a coupler to connect the 2 female threads together.  Plus data mining on the Internet - there is no mention of connecting 2 Unertl oculars
The power ring to adjust the cross hairs is stamped with the number 20
So I took both oculars off and looked through them at lettering on a piece of paper.  The extra "20x" magnified the letters larger than the one that was on the scope which can't be a 20x.  Plus the lengths of the 2 oculars are different:
5.3cm - the one that came on the scope which has to be an ocular of lower magnification - thus it's THE EXTRA
6.0cm - the extra "20x" ocular that magnified the letters larger is most probably the 20x ocular that originally came on the scope
I changed oculars and put the 6.0cm one on the scope

The Unertl handbook for focusing & use makes no mention about length differences for oculars and nothing about connecting 2 of the together.  Also, there is no identification of the maximum powder for all the scope models - this one being the 1 1/2" Target model.  But Kelver's book on scopes for SS's says the maximum power for the 1 1/2 is 20x

The serial number on this one is 694xx, it being one produced later when Unertl was in business
The reticule has a Target Dot (not a Mil-Dot though Unertl was the first scope to use a Mil-Dot reticle ) with fine cross hairs which I like
