I can vouch for the little holes.
I used to come across boxes of vintage cases and cartridges at auctions; and in one old cigar box I found some straight tapered cases that had four little holes neatly arranged around the neck.
After some research, I found the same info as above; and it was recommended not to use that tool because of the damage to the cases.
If nothing else, it kinda ruins the collector value IMHO
