so "Normal"  means something like SAAMI specs (if I've spelled it right)

Well I picked up the rifle this morning.  To me it is very beautiful, I had never seen a schuetzen rifle first-hand.  I hope I did not misspeak about the brass.  I have tons of 30-30 brass but no proper die.  Have never fireformed before, will the ~.010 neck expansion be too much too fast?  I will keep shortening the brass until it just chambers.  No problem getting a die, just a little anxious to get shooting, even with a 'blank' load.

Later - fairly sure a sizing die is required, the 30-30 shoulder is too fat at .401.  Having picture trouble - Linux computer.

Soon as the wife gets off the phone.  I am camera dumb.  She does not share my shooting enthusiasm, loves quilting though.

You really don't need a 8.15x46R die set if you have a 32/40 die set. Just run the 30/30's through it, first with the expander and see how it fits. Then w/o the expander and see if it will chamber any deeper.

Shorten the case untill it will chamber all the way and then fire form, either with a bullet if you have one but, I didn't see anything posted about groove size or with Cream of wheat or corn meal.

If you want to seat cylinderical bullet (non SR) you can do that with a 32 Special, seating die and by pass though spendy 8.15x46R dies, all to gether.

Hope the pictures are of a proper size.
Tang sight is missing, front sight is a post, barrel sight has a bent elevation screw.  I will be sending the Aydt to Bill Loos for sight work.

Could we see a picture of the lever open? the layout looks a lot like a System Will, like mine.

Here is the open action.
By the way, there is a crack on the right side against the receiver, which I knew from the Gunbroker post.  Not sure what to do about other than maybe remove pressure from the receiver.

Nice rifle, but don't believe it is an Aydt, but that is not a bad thing. Has the barrel been recrowned?

What I was wanting a picture of is the lever itself, in the open postion. If it looks like this, it's a System Will or Hiller.

Today I happened to notice, almost every bullet shown the the 8.15 book is a hollow base in one way or another. Some have large hollows like a Minie, some are shallow, some are medium sized.  Is this the answer to the big long tapered throat?  My Frank Zika mold has this capability. Can make the hollow any depth wanted.

Very interesting.

Joe,  I'd be interested in seeing photos of that mold.

Since most of the old original bullets were supplied from industrial makers who swedged them, stamping in a hollow base would  be an easy part of the process

Lever open.  Will try to shoot it today to measure the fired case.  The workmanship on this rifle is amazing to me.  Someone really, really cared.
