This Stevens looks like a checkered Model 47- 44 1/2 but the face of the receiver is stamped 56  0. Can someone help me out with an ID ? T.I.A.  Gary

No. 56 is a "Lady Model," & this gun matches the catalog description & illustration; what a beauty!

Suspect you'll find that your 56 has a small swiss plate not quite as large as that used on the 47, and that your receiver will measure only 1" across, which is narrower than the 47 receiver.
Beautiful on the outside, how is the bore of that 22 rimfire?

Thanks fellas. This rifle is an "attic find" ... although I wasn't entirely sure what it was that I actually found other than it being a neat looking little Stevens, and the price was right. Doubt any screws were ever turned, and with the exception of a little dust, the inside looks about as nice as the outside.

That Stevens is as nice as they get, maybe better.

What caliber?

Joe,
It's chambered for .22rf
At first it "sort of" behaved as it were a single set trigger but after a turpentine "bath", it now behaves correctly having a crisp single stage trigger.

Joe,
It's chambered for .22rf and just noticed that it has a single set trigger .... don't know if they all came that way.

Nice little #56!!! Its a bit on the more rare side, as in not very many seen. The action is an 044 1/2, model is 56 for the rifle.   Don

Thanks everyone. Alls'yalls have been very helpful identifying The Lady for me. While I'm more of a big bore (guy), this certainly adds a female balance to my collection. My first inclination is always to take a "new" rifle apart and clean it 'til is squeaks, but in this case, I think I'll just leave 'er alone.

Joe,
While this rifle doesn't really fit my single shot rifle collecting/shooting "profile", being a big bore(guy); I will try my skill on a pop can or two before setting 'er next her testosterone drenched suitors in my gun safe.

I'm also 6'6" 260# so I'll have to try shooting 'er off my elbow Undecided

Great find, I have looked for one for my wife but gave up because they always go pricey. Hope it shoots well.

No, call me. My daughter wants it real BAD! I told her I'd get it for her. She wants to shoot OH matches when she gets home from Germany. Serving her country and suffering and all that stuff. She deserves to have a ladies model Stevens. Only a real nice one will do.
