What steps must be taken to size 32/20 wcf to 25/20 wcf, my books say just run them through the full length sizing die, but it don't work for me. The necks fold, crack, and split--I need help.    ledball

I'll have to try some to give an EXPERIENCED answer.

But in the mean time I'll just ask a question - did you anneal first?  Did you try forming in two stages and annealing between?

Just thinking out loud.

Legball, I just did a little experiment to be able to answer your question. I don't have a 25-20 but I do have a set of 218 Bee dies, dont have any clue why I have them but I do. I took a 32-20 case and annealed it and then ran it through a 32-20 sizer die, the 218 seating die and then the full length die. I didn't have any problems forming a nice looking 218 case. I tried doing the same with a case with a crack at the neck, it wasn't annealed and I just went straight to the FL die, needless to say it didn't survive.
So I would guess that if you anneal your cases and then in the sizing die and then the FL die you should end up with nice looking cases.

Folds or dimples - usually too much lube which gets trapped
Cracking and splitting - the brass is too hard, brittle - anneal.

I used to form 577-450 brass from 24-gauge Magtech cases with just the sizer - a good, consistent anneal was one of the keys to success.  That and using just the right amount of lube:  Too much will give folds, dents and dimples, too little will get the case stuck in the die, ripping off the rims...

You wont be the first to do this.  I have in my old cartridge drawer a 25 WCF with a 32 WCF head stamp that was in my dad's desk in about 1943.

Another thing to check is the cleanliness/surface finish inside your sizing die. I size 45-70 down 2-steps to 38-56, as does a fellow shooter. I've had zero problem in doing so and he ruined several cases when he got started. Finally had him bring his dies over to try in my press and same result. Took a look inside and they were rusted/pitted. A good cleaning, little polish with some 800 grit wet paper and some lube and he was good.

Another little something to maybe consider is a problem I have run into in the past. I have found that if you make a change in your sizing lube it is best to clean the inside of your die and maybe give it a lite coat of the new lube. I have had stuck cases because I changed lubed and found out that they were not compatible with what had been used in the die before.
I have since found a lube I like very much and plan on sticking with it. I use Dillon lube which is Lanolin and alcohol. I have had little to no problems since I made the change over.

For reforming brass use Imperial sizing die wax. A little bit on a Q-tip and coat the brass and clean the sizer die and coat it with a little wax, A little bit goes a long ways!! If you don't have any Midway has it.

Don't try to form it in one pass. You might be able to do it in 2 passes. Wipe the excess lube off between passes. You should have no problems with 3 passes but it will be slow.
