charlie,

I've had two .22-3000's and two R2's. Both are great little cartridges, though I don't own them anymore.

You can make cases from .223's, but takes a swage or two and some labor, but it will work.

A friend of mine has, or had, a couple hundred Griffin&Howe R2 cases that I had left over when I sold the last rifle. If you would like I can try to get ahold of him and see what he intends to do with them.

I don't know if Jamison cases are available these days or not, Bertram cases tend to be junky, and overpriced. On both my R2 chambers I made a swage for the head of the cases that I really didn't use much, and I neck sized in a .222 Remington die, I don't think I modified the die at all. But my memory..............

If you have dies made, it's sure best to send a few fired cases from your chamber, there were a lot of curious reamer grinders back in the day and chamber and shoulder dimensions were all over the place.

The Landis book ".22 Caliber Varmint Rifles" is pretty much the Bible on the Lovell cartridges and a lot of the variations. In the barrel twists I had I used mostly 50 and 52 grain bullets and between 14 and 15.5 grains of 4227 with no problems.

Good luck, it's a dandy little cartridge.

Tom I would appreciate it if you would ask your friend about the cases.

That would be a big help. Thanks

New made 25-20SS Jamison cases are available, they also have them in larger quanities and a basic unsized version, I use the 25-20SS cases and they are excellent quality see link below!

As an FYI with a little effort you can come up with G&H 22-3000 cases at reasonable cost. I'd swing by Saubier.com, the small caliber forum as there a a couple R2 devotee's there.
In my high wall I have had really fine results with AA 1680 over Remington 7/12 primers driving either 37 grain Calhoon dbl hollow points or 40gr Vmax slugs, both of which group at about 5/8"-3/4" @ 100yds.
