Exceptional Maynard 2nd Model in Gettysburg

Maynard folks --

I discovered an exceptionally nice original Maynard cavalry carbine which is presently available at the Horse Soldier Store in Gettysburg (PA) and want to share the information, particularly the Serial Number, for those who are tracking such information.

The piece is a Second Model and carries the Serial Number 23,701 and a production date of 1865, both on the trigger bar.  From my experience, since beginning to chase down Maynards (of all descriptions), this is the highest serial number that I have encountered or recorded.

To view the piece, go to;

Enjoy,

I just found out that the example which I was tracking has been SOLD , apparently.  Boy that was fast.

What is significant about this sample is that it "officially" ties a late serial number to a production date.  In essence, this makes up for the lack of factory production records in a small measure, and by extrapolation, one can place their Maynard "in the ball-park" date wise.

Mr. Small seems to have the knack, wherewithal, and the connections necessary to come up with these really nice Civil War period arms when you least expect them.

Look him up at the Fall Nationals (N-SSA) in Winchester.
