I obtained a load of cast 365 gr bullets for my 38/55, but can find no handload data for them. It is for a single shot Martini action. Anyone have experience with them ? TIA !

I get by with a little help from my friends !

Try about 40-45 gr of Swiss 1.5 and a .030" wad.

It's a long heavy bullet takes a fast twist.  My 18 inch twist 38/55 does fine with 300 grs doubt it would shoot that bullet well.   300 gr about 17.5 of 4227 or 4759 is a good load.  More bullet weight use less powder start low and work up.

I'll bet it would do good with my C. Sharps with a 1:14 twist. Just a tad heavy for my liking, however.

Am shooting with someone who is shooting a 365gr 'Money' bullet in his 38-55 in front of 45gr of 1 1/2F Swiss and having good accuracy. Am thinking he is using either a 12" or 13" twist barrel. Thus far he has not been having any trouble with the rams.

For 38 calibers (Greenhill's formula):

1:18 Twist Maximum 1.2" bullets: approximately 315 grains
1:16 Twist Maximum 1.35" bullets: approximately 340 grains
1:14 Twist Maximum 1.54" bullets: approximately 370 grains

     Don Miller's Twist Rule

     Caliber      0.379      Inches
     Bullet Weight      305      Grains
     Bullet Length      1.15      Inches
     Barrel Twist      18      Inches/turn
     muzzle velocity      1300      fps
     Temperature      60      degrees Fahrenheit (59 is standard)
     Pressure      29.92      inches of mercury (29.92 is standard)

     Sg =      1.87

     Caliber      0.379      Inches
     Bullet Weight      305      Grains
     Bullet Length      1.15      Inches
     Barrel Twist      18      Inches/turn
     muzzle velocity      1600      fps
     Temperature      60      degrees Fahrenheit (59 is standard)
     Pressure      29.92      inches of mercury (29.92 is standard)

     Sg =      2.00

           Caliber      0.379      Inches
     Bullet Weight      370      Grains
     Bullet Length      1.54      Inches
     Barrel Twist      14      Inches/turn
     muzzle velocity      1300      fps
     Temperature      60      degrees Fahrenheit (59 is standard)
     Pressure      29.92      inches of mercury (29.92 is standard)

     Sg =      1.63

     Sg shouldn't be less than 1.4.  If Sg is greater than about 2.0, you may
     gain some accuracy by going to a slower twist barrel.

So I ordered an Accurate Molds .38-305L mold for my 1:18 barrel which I will chamber to .38-50 Remington Hepburn. It will allow me to shoot the cast bullet up to 1600 fps. or shoot at slower speeds to allow for weather changes.

Let us know how that 38-50 works out for you. A couple of folks on the Shiloh forum are shooting them with very good results. One is loading 50gr of 1 1/2F Swiss and doing well on silhouettes with several scores this year above 30. But, he is shooting a 12" twist barrel and 335-365gr bullets.

If I had ordered the barrel I would have gone to a tighter twist and used it for silhouette BPCR.
However I won the barrel with a 1:18 twist so I will make a practice chicken rifle.
It will be better suited as a Cowboy action rifle and/or a sporting rifle since I will not be able to shoot the heavier bullets.

Think you will be pleasantly surprised with the 305gr bullet and the rams. I'm shooting 57gr of Goex 2F behind my 325gr Money bullet and 340gr Brooks bullet and both knock over the rams with authority. When I hit them they go down. Have yet to ring one. With 50gr of 1 1/2F or 2F Swiss am guessing your 305gr bullet will be going fast enough to have similar results.
