Bibbyman's single shot rifles

Well, a few of them. I went through the safe this morning and did some dusting and oiling. I pulled out a few and took pictures.

One is of flat spring 1885s, the HW is 45/70 in standard configuration.  The LW was 22 short but relined and chambered to 22LR.  Both have old stock repair at wrist.  Both have tapered octagon barrels.

The Martinis are both BSA. The top on is 310 Cadet marked Australia NSW and is unaltered and even has sight hood.  The lower is a 22 target rifle.

Does Bibbywoman have any guns to shoot when the two of you go out in the woods come dear season?

She probably has a Trapdoor Springfield in 45-70 or wished she did.

Our "meat" guns are Marlins. 1895 45/70 for me, 1894 44mag for Bibbywoman.  I did kill a deer with the high wall pictured.

I've killed a number of deer with single shot guns.

Tompson Contender 35 Remington
Remington RB in 7mm
1873 trapdoor 45/70
1868 trapdoor 50/70
1885 Browning 45/70
1885 Winchester 45/70 pictured above

Between the two of them, Bibbyman and Bibbywoman, they can lay down some heavy fire in the woods with all those "big bore" arms at their disposal.

I don't worry that they'll even go hungry .  .  .  .they just may get a little tired of eating deer meat in the winter months.     Wink

Here is two of the last three I "harvisted" within 75 yards of our mom-n-pop sawmill operation. I say harvest as there is no hunting to it. When season starts I take my Marlin with me to work. When one walks out, I shoot it.  The one with the Marlin across it was shot from the sawshed. The one in the road was shot when I walked out to the sawshed to get started.  Three minutes from when I walked out of the house.

Trust me, you don't.   The varmints are very destructive to crops and yards and a road hazard.  More are killed on the highway than taken by hunters despite extended seasons and large take numbers.   I think we qualify for up to 12 permits counting bow, muzzle loader, rifle and special seasons.  In some areas the doe permits are virtual unlimited.  Only one buck can be taken of at least 8 points - bucks with less are protected,

  BibbyMan  --

I was visualizing you and BibbyWoman in your camo bibs up in a double (read sofa) tree stand waiting for it all to happen.  You covering the north trail and BibbyWoman covering the two flanks.

Now it looks as if these tasty critters just come walking up to you expecting you to give them a red apple with walnuts on the side.

Oh what fun it all is.

You know, if I didn't live clear over on the other side of the continent, I'd drive on up there and help you with your varmint problem! Cool

The deer hunting regulations are pretty complex.  Land owners are given so many permits depending on how many acers they own and the density of the deer population.  Resident license are inexpensive and you buy them for a specific unit. Non-resident permits are pretty expensive - intended for trophy hunters.  To attach more trophy hunters,  they have started to protect bucks with 8 points or less.

Chronic waste disease and blue tongue has hit the deer population hard in the past couple of years.

Here is a 15 point buck I found last fall. And a 8 point I found this spring.
