Thanks to Jeff Phelps, I now know that M. S. Hendricks of Aroura, IL, made this rifle. Once Jeff told me that, I called Dennis Hrurosky who collects IL long guns and lives near Aroura. Dennis gave me loads of great info, including the fact that what I though were tiny Malcolm mounts were actually made by Hendricks.

That's super, Joel.  This is such a great site with so many people who know single shots around to help you.  Well done, all around.

Not only people who know single shots, but some with young eyes and memories. My original posting on Double gun to get an idea of who made this rifle included this photo of some tiny checkered triangles that I was sure was the stockmaker's signature.

Sure enough my friend Jeff who came up with the answer from seeing this photo in an August 1995 auction catalog. I am showing this below in a 1:1 picture.

I have no idea how he managed to see the triangles from that photo or remember it 18 years later. This is a highly magnified image of them.

I may be all wet, but the something about the O.P.s rifle has me thinking that it may be a Model 418, not a Favorite.  I'm no eggspurt on either model, but if it is a 418, it's not only a beauty, but rare as frog fur.

I thought about that as well. Of course the original pistol grip stock would have been a big help in identifying it. Still, the ejector and short throw hammer point to that or could have been improvements done by Hendrick.

"   The scope is .625 in diameter. Its lucky it came with excellent mounts. It is clear as a bell and I was able to put 3 out of 3 shots in the X ring at 75 years. As always, I quit while I was ahead."

WOW! That is a long range rifles. How many yards is 75 lightyears? Grin
