I am looking for any suggestions for what powder to use in my 38-55.
I have AA5744, I4198, 3031, and possibly a few others that would work.
I will be BS bullets, right now I have 255 gr bullets to try.
Thanks in advance.

Alliant 300MP using Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers is what I found to be the best for my use.

Need more information. What are you going to use your 38/55 for?  Lead bullet target shooting? OH or BR? Plinking? Hunting? Cowboy/girl action?

I will be shooting from the bench for now, maybe some some offhand, but no hunting.
The reason I ask about those powders is because like everyone, I am having a tough time getting anything else right now.

The AA5744 should work well for you.  Go to their website and look at what they suggest.  Their starting load should be fine since you will reduce the pressure even more with the additional space gained breech seating.  If you can find some IMR 4227, that's also a long time favorite amongst the 38-55 crowd as is IMR 4759, which I have used in this caliber as well as 32-40.  Hope this will get you started!

PS  Those 255 grainers should be fine for now if they are a good fit in your bore (Rule of Thumb= bullet should be about .001" over groove diameter.)  Some guys are shooting heavier bullets in 38-55, but more weight = more recoil.  I would stick with 255s for the moment.
