Here is the rifle I have just finished. It is chambered in .28-30 Stevens and weighs in at 11 pounds and 7 ounces. I'll find out this weekend if has been worth all the work.

If it shoots as good as it looks, you've got a winner.

Bill --
You were obviously busy over this past winter and the fruits of your labor is one really nice looking period rifle. Do let us hear back from you after your match about it's accuracy.
I would be interested in knowing what barrel you selected and what the specs might be. I have thought about the .28 Cal. but have done nothing towards bringing that idea to fruition for myself.
I very fine rifle indeed. Good luck and best wishes,
Webb

The barrel is a Douglas in the Stevens no. 3 weight. it is 1 turn in 14 inches. I will report back after the weekend. Thanks to all for the comments. Oh, by the way I used the Mark Lee fast rust blue on the barrel and am pleased. It took about two hours instead of a couple of days.

Bill --
Are you and Matt planning on being at the Chinquapin Match in Gretna later this month?
If so, I hope you will have your new Stevens 44 1/2 along with you, I would really like to see it "in person". Did you re-case color the receiver during the build - up? If so, who did that work for you ? I have a receiver that needs re-case coloring and I am wanting to get someone who is good at it.
Thanks,
Webb

That's a very nice rifle, Bill. It looks like you may be the first to produce a Traditional 28 score
I'm looking forward to it,

Webb.
We wont be at Charlie's match I June, but if he has a match in the fall we hope to attend. We have planned to come to Gretna for the last two fall matches but something has interrupted our plans. Maybe we'll get lucky this year.
Frank.
The Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise I'll have you a score in a few days.

Bill, Is that action a CPA or a Stevens 44 1/2? I ask because the lever & the hammer look like CPA. Still a beauty though, is that a #49 or #52 buttplate? Did you do the stockwork (nice !!). I've got a couple of 28-30s, original Stevens' & they seem to like loads a little on the hot side (44 1/2s) with the Lyman 120 GR. bullet. ...MIKE...
