twist for 338 barrel

hopefully this is in the correct category!
i am looking at a .338 barrel for a 33-47. Shilen has a barrel with "ratchet rifling" with a 1-9 twist. without getting into Greenhill does anyone have experience with this rifling? with lead bullets at 1400 fps? with any lead bullets?      seems like it would be smoother to use but..... Smiley

Dave 9 is way to fast, call Gail at CPA, should have 14 twist in stock and her prices are good. She can also profile it for you should you wish to do so.

My 33-47 is a 14 twist Douglas. You've seen it shoot.

The long-range sniper rifles chambered for the 338 Lapua use a i:10" twist. That is for a jacketed bullet traveling about 3 times the speeds that we use.
If you are building a rifle with a quicker twist to support a longer bullet a 1:12" twist would be about the fastest I would go. The 1:14" twist is already proven and a good performer. I am not sure what Ron Smith provides but I would be surprised if it went faster than his 1:11 1/2" twist he uses for him .32 barrels.
