Peabody side hammer commercial

As a few of you know I have been in the process of building up a Commercial Peabody side hammer rifle. When completed it should be really exceptional. The hard part to find is the Butt plate. The Peabody butt plate is kind of an odd duck. You can't substitute any other plate and have it look correct at all. I'm have 6 cast up which will be ready here in about 6 weeks or so, I need 2 for myself so there will be 4 left over. If there is enough call for them they may make another run to the foundry. If you are in need of one for a project please let me know and I'll give you the contact info.

I believe I know exactly which rifle that photo came from.  You don't by any chance know who purchased it  recently from  RIACo, do you?  I'd like a picture or two of the underside of the barrel near the receiver.  (PM back is OK)

No clue, I did not even know it was up for sale. I have some nice pictures of the rifle but none under the barrel.

Michael as you know. I had one that came with the stock set you and I got from,?? But he had sold the butt plate. And it took  a long time to find one. Maybe someone is recasting some.?? That is a rare piece.  IF you need one like in the above picture.  Whitey

Whitey, I'm the one haveing thme recast at my request. I promised them I would take 2 and I know the others will sell. And they will be the same as the picture above. I know the mold is a good accurate one as I know the fellow that made the mold.

1. picture is of an original Peabody Sporting Rifle butt plate.
Yes, the side swivel is original.  Have seen old catalog pictures showing a side swivel on the butt stock, just like this one.  For those in doubt, remember Windychester '66 also had a side swivel base on their butt stock.
2 - 5. not original, cast in Oklahoma in the 1990's.
Yes, 2-5 are from two custom Peabody Sporting Rifle projects that began in the late 1990's.  The person having done the casting sold out his business 4+ years ago, nothing available from him anymore.

The stock maker who I obtained my semi-finished stock blanks for the two Sporting Rifles no longer has any in stock. He told me he'd made 6 sets of blanks and it took 10 years to sell them, the last being sold a couple of months ago - perhaps I helped sell that last one for him to someone in the Forum here.  At present he does not plan on making anymore, due to the time it took him to sell that batch of 6 stock sets.

Mike, do you have the stock wood yet?  If so, did it come from NM?  Smiley

Looking forward to seeing the results of your casting project....and the rest of the Sporting rifle doings. Keep us posted, k'.
Hope this helps lend towards ideas n' concepts out there...

Hi, no NM, O picked mine up from Dick Binger in Indiana. Dick had 2 sets. I purchased one  at about the samme time he sold the other. Mine was a piece of English walnut rather plain. I have since had it copied on to a nicer black walnut with some figure in it.
