	It has been suggested that I post a few photos of my Stevens 44 1/2 in 32-40. I think it's in great condition for it's age. The bore appears as though it was shot very little and it's lever locks up tight. I like the color case that Stevens put on there rifles that look like chevrons rather than the blotchy color case other used on there firearms. I have also posted the first test target I fired with it at 100 yards. The Lyman 103 tang sight and the Stevens 210 front globe with post was used in the test firing.

	Guys, Thanks for the kind words and information. The Lyman #103 tang sight did not come with the rifle but rather a Lyman #2 tang sight with a Lyman #47 windage top. At least that is what I think the tang sight is. Here are a few photos of it. Also note that the bottom is stamped with a V. I have looked it over with a magnifying glass and it is a letter V. Anyone know anything more about this tang sight with it's windage top please reply with your information. thanks, Sendaro

	Sendaro, Someone put that 47 Windgauge stem into your earlier 1 or 2 loop spring base. The 47 stem was introduced when Lyman had begun production of the later 1A and 2A side lock base, and if you had purchased the 47 stem in a complete sight, it was designated as the 52A tang sight. Since the 47 stem was sold as a separate item, it wasn't unusual for a shooter to pull the original 1 or 2 stem out of the earlier loop base and upgrade the sight with the 47 stem. You might look to see if there is a faint S to the left of the V stamped in the underside of the base. The SV code sight was for the Stevens No. 70 "Visible Loading" pump action rifle, more often and infamously called the "Miserable Loader" by those who owned that rifle.

	Beautiful 44 1/2 and a shooter. The Visable loader had a different hole spacing for the tang sight so I am not sure about that one. V does not show up on any other application that I can find for Lyman. Would like to try my .32-40 44 1/2 on deer or hogs.

	Slumlord, Look closely at the mounting screw hole shown in the last picture. Does it look correct to you?

	It sort of looks like it has been monkeyed with. I am prety sure the Visable Loader used a narrower hole spacing than the normal Stevens 1.5" spacing. I know it took me a while to find a tang sight for mine because of this.

	Sad thing is, so many people are messing with the old tang sights that about all the letter code is good for anymore is to let you know what it used to fit. Hole spacing confirmation is a must do.

	Guys, I'd like to reassure you that the base screw holes of my tang sight have not been messed with. I have attached a photo that shows them more clearly. I have also posted a target that I fired yesterday testing the rifle with a 13.5 grain powder charge of IMR4227. You will see that the first 5 shots went low. I elevated and fire#6 and it was also lower than the center of the target so I clicked up one and one to the right and fired the last five. I know that it's not good enough to take into BR comp. but I'm happy with the results at this point and plan to keep experimenting to improve the accuracy. Sendaro

	Sendaro, I'm not knocking your sight. But I have seen sights that have had the base shortened with a new hole drilled, and I have seen a couple that had the base lengthened too. What I'm getting at is that the old sights need to be looked at just as carefully as when you are considering the purchase of a rifle. The are some excellent craftsmen out there.

	BP, Your point is well taken. I know that there are some very skilled craftsmen and that they can fool the best sometimes. Think that its bad in firearms you should see whats been going on in Indian artifacts. I've see broken stone spear points restored so well that you have have to look at them with a black light and microscope to know they have been repaired. There are flint nappers out there that can duplicate the old methods and know how to age the surface into a believable patina. Sendaro
