I have a rifle (just obtained) that I cannot identify.  Marked Original Meister on the action and JGA (on the barrel) under the fore end. 2-28   7.6/46 3 proof marks (G,B,U) nitro mark on the barrel.   HW intertwined in the lever.  It has the traditional Schuetzen stock and if a falling block single shot.  Any ideas

Like this one?
The original Meister model is a Buechel, but they also sold the actions to other gunsmiths---this one made by Bruno Anschutz. The dimensions relate to the bore before rifling. The calibre is 8.15 x 46R. Brass is easily made from .30-30 and a mould for the correct "stop-ring" bullet is available from NEI.

You've come to the right place! There are folks here that can probably identify it.

A picture or two would help immensely.

  Hello Bob R.

What a great schuetzen rifle you've just acquired.

Did you also happen to get the rear sight which was original to the rifle?  I would venture to say that upwards of 60% to 75% of these very fine rifle are not available today for purchase with their original rear sight and front sight included, at least in America.

There is a reason why that is so.  It seems that in Europe, the schuetzen vereins kept the members rifles at the venue or schuetzen verein house and the members would take the sights off their respective rifles and the sights went home with each competitor at the end of the day's match.  Thus, the sights were separated from the rifle and they were easily permanently separated, particularly during WW II, and U.S. soldiers returned home with these"war prizes" in their duffel bags.

Period correct European style schuetzen sights are available and I know of at least one skilled craftsman who makes the appropriate sights, should you need one produced.

WELCOME to the A.S.S.R.A. web forum and I wish you my very best regards and much success with your new rifle.

Thanks for the timely replies.  Great information.  No sights with the rifle so need to get some information there.  Does anyone know what the value may be?

Value of which, this rifle, or the correct sights that you will be adding to it, or both the rifle with the sights combined ?

zI guess a value both with and without and maybe a source of square post mounted rear sights.  I have more questions than answers?

Where can I find a set of sights for this rifle?
Repro or original?

Take a look at these sights, maybe you can find one that would be ok for your rifle?

Note that most Schuetzen rifles have the stem in the centre of the diopter. If yours is indeed a Buechel action then the stem is offset to the right to enable a cleaning rod to be used from the breech end. Makes the search just that bit more difficult!
