The shot in the lower portion of the 25 ring looks like a double, if so I don't see any tipping?

Frank:

So what if the bullets tip. My bullets tip more than yours; but still win matches.

John,
That is a double low in the 25.

Dave,
I don't care if they tip, either as long as they stay in the 25 ring but, they just don't care what I think Sad

My bullets have always tipped as well, but one of the tips I gleaned from this forum had to do with harder alloy. (Thank you John Louis).  I went to Raton this year with bullets of about 18:1 and about 3 more tenths of a grain 4227 and shot my first 250.
Have flirted with it in the past but never quited made it before - always had one out.

Regards, Joe

My end of the shooting year results. The rifle seems to be coming around and is now, reasonably competive. I still have work to do next year, as my supply of "old" #9 will be gone and it's what got me to this point. I'll chorongraph this last load and start with another powder. I believe the main thing that got me to this point was increasing the powder charge form what I started with (12.0), to 13.5 gr of #9

My Modesto results for Five 5 shot groups at 100 yards, are as follows:

.823
.380
.625
.525
.336

For a average of .545, w/o the .823 it's .467. I was 3rd place at the match.

The last shoot of the year here at my home range (Grants Pass, OR), I shot a 1.44 ten shot group at 200 yards.

Hopefully this next year will produce a little better results.

I'm for sure going to start it off the right way, not by shooting but, by celibrating New Years in Victoria, Canada. One of my favorite places. Maybe some of that Canadian skill will rub off on me while I'm there   Roll Eyes

My rifle seems to be getting better and better. These are my latest results with it.

The load hasn't change, except that I'm now using Rem 7 1/2 primers but, I don't think there is difference from the Fed GM200M primers that I started using.

My unknown bullet casts 243.5 ave so, I'm about maxed out on velocity that is still fairly comfortable to shoot, or I'd try bumping it up .2 - .5 gr to see what more powder would do.

The first two pictures are my two 249's shot back to back in the Canadian 100 shot match in Spokane. I place 4th OA and averaged 245. As a mater of fact, I placed 4th in EVERY CF BR match shot in Spokane for all calibers.

The 3rd picture is the .463 group that I shot in yesterdays match, here in GP, OR.

Now for some interesting targets, also shot in yesterdays match.

First is a 200 yard 10 shot group shot with bullets out of a original Pope mold, supplied to me by our good friend Joe (Westener). I re-lubed them with Smilley lube so, I wouldn't have to foul my barrel after shooting them. Joe and I shot a couple of promising 3 and 5 shot groups with them in Spokane with his lube on them.

This has shown me something (I think) about bullet fit. The nose on the Pope bullet, has the first 3 bands at .328, the next was .335, then .337 and the base band was .341 x .110 wide, the others about .060. My unknown bullet is .338 x .040 wide on the first band then, .337 x .050 on the next 4 and a .3395 x .160 base band. My groove diameter is .337 and a .330 bore. Note that the groups are very simular, shot next to each other but, the mirage started up for the unknown bullet.

The last target, was also shot yesterday, also. The first 3 shots were in the 24 so, I kept moving left about 1/4" at a time and on the 9th shot, I got the 23, holding on the edge of the 25 ring, the 10th went back in the 25, using the same hold. Even so it's a 1" 9 shot group. Had I kept the original hold, it would have been smaller. It was also shot in mirage but, I had noticed the change from wind flag conditions to mirage by then. They seem to be two distinct conditions with mirage trumping flags.

One other matter of note is, since October of 2013, I have over 600 shots on a single 357 Max case. I have never used wads of any kind in it. The primer pocket is loosening but, it still will hold a primer. Before starting to use this case exclusively, I used it randomly with the 4 other cases that I keep in my box so, I'm not really sure just how many firings are on it.

Nice looking group target Frank, close to a record and a couple of Dandy 249's as well.

Nice Shooting!

Frank:

Great to see you have your rifle tuned.
Unfortunately I may have to recall the AA #9 powder I sold you. I accidentally sold you the Canadian version of it and it only works in cold climates in RKS barrels.

Now you need to test 4100 against the AA#9 and tell us if there is a difference.

Dave,
The powder I used was, what is left of the Spokane powder. I haven't used any of the Canadian "Family" #9 yet. I have one more pound of the American #9 and then I can start on the Special Canadian "Family" powder Smiley

I have yet to find any 4100 to use. I've been trying to find it to buy for 2 1/2 years but, I would love to test it. I can't seem to pry it out of anyone that has any, either Sad
