	It looks untouched. However, it looks bone-color hardened, rather than the more familiar ripple finish. They did the bone hardening later in production?

That I don't know and yeah I've seen the ripple on earlier ones. The rifle shows wear not shown in the pics. The wood has some dents due to what I describe as ring finger dents. The blue is starting to brown and is worn somewhat near the muzzle. Honestly, I can't find anything that would cause me to think its not a hunnert percent original. However, I'm dang sure open to hard critiques and more info.

	The case color is somewhat different than what I am used to seeing but then I rarely see one with that case coloring that vivid. Since the rest of the gun shows normal wear it is highly unlikely that the case on the frame would have been re done. Nice find!

	I've never seen a Stevens that was bone casehardened. They've all been cyanide striped colors that I've seen. Very unusual.

It would also be Savage marked. Usually on upper corner of receiver on left side. It does not show in the photo, but that area might not be covered.

Shoot I don't know Mike except someone suggested that year because the serial is 72xxx. Now y'all have me really interested...and somewhat apprehensive. The wood is absolutely factory and hasn't been refinished. The lever and buttplate show the the same type of CCH although wear/fading is apparent on the lever. The bore is nye perfect and the action is bank vault tight. Be glad to add more pics of certain areas if someone can shed some more light on the subject.
