First post , back in on 32 - 40 after years away .

I was given my departed friends collection of gear . I am still sorting out the Basics . It looks like 38 - 55 brass sized to 32 - 40 . Some moulds in 170 gr and 200 gr . It looks like he has seat long bullets on the cases ,instead of the breech seating method . I did find a drilled out primer hole ( .250) on a case
could be a seating tool .

I have 30 years reloading 45 / 308/ 357 sig / 38 / 6mm / casting /sizer / wheel weight buckets .So I'm set on primers - dies - trimmers - measures .

So far 4227 . 4895 . blue dot . 2400 . are powders I have or found in his gear . Just wondering whats the best starting load for my  25 " barrel schuetzen style / newer (90s) rifle . I remember 4227 was the standard on 170 gr cast bullet . Seems odd to have everything I need in these times of shortage .

Thanks

What action is it? Do the bullet molds have numbers on them? 4227 is the powder to start with. 14.0 - 14.9 is a good range for 170 - 200 gr bullets, breech seated., 1/2 a gr less, fixed.

My rifle has Miller action , Molds are Saeco #553 / Hoch 32 200gr / FE .32 single SP7  .323 - .318 .

I think the Saeco is out of production , maybe custom for the other two . Wondering if wheel weights are too hard an alloy .

New Wheel Weights have so little lead scrap yards won't even buy them. Fine rifle use good quality lead.  1/25 from RotoMetals you won't go wrong

Bullet is the most important part of the load

Don't use WW, for good relieable bullets use only tin/lead mixures. + - 20/1. 30/1 is as soft as I would go.

Sould like you have good molds to start with, you just need to contact Russ Weber for a breech seater and you should be set.

I have some clean lead ingots , with tin bars stashed . One of these mould must be the tapered type I had before . Just lube and no sizing on them as I recall .

Thanks to all who replied .

Hans, the case with the drilled out primer pocket might be a low tech bore guide for cleaning purposes.  That's what I use.
