Being another self styled wood expert (stocking guns since the 60s) my 1st guess would be Myrtle and my 2nd guess would be quilted Maple, whatever it's sure pretty. I've worked  with Myrtle that was very close to this one.

I'm looking for a nice thick plank of imbuia - like molasses and honey stirred together, and a mirror-finish on the surface without oiling or varnishing.

Lovely wood.
