Found this at Tulsa show, it has 32" barrel chambered in 45-100. Looked a long time for one of these actions and all I ever found were in really bad shape until I ran across this one.

Wow!  That is an exquisitely well-done Comblain!  How does it shoot?

Working on getting some brass right now, have not had a chance to shoot it except to test fire it.

Is the stock maple?

Not sure what it is but will find out when I redo it. I do not like shiny stocks and I will checker the grip and forearm. Most likely from the grain pattern it is maple.

Unusual pattern for maple, but possible. Could be almost anything from birch to myrtle. Self-styled "wood experts" will give you opinions and assure you they absolutely know the truth of the matter. But you may never know the species. Even sending a sample to a dendrologly lab for analysis could prove inconclusive. Just enjoy it--and the mystery.

Being a self styled wood expert (stocking guns since 1980) Wink I'd guess Quilted maple and second guess would be myrtle which I have no experience with. Quilted maple and curly maple are the same, just different figure pattern.
I have seen some Birch out of Finland that approaches that also.

Thank you rooster. Quilted Maple, I remember that. Maple is beautiful and gives us maple syrup.

Trigger pull is suprisingly good. The way it is built I thought it would be a hard trigger but it is good.

Had a little Comblain rook rifle in .297/230 years ago, and it was in very nice shape. Trigger pull on mine was pretty stiff.
That one is a great looking Comblain! Don't see many, and even less in large frames.

Does not look like Maple to me. More like Myrtle but you never know for sure. Woods have so many colloquial names, different growing regions etc. Add the variations with unusual grains and patterns it's difficult to tell exactly what something is.

Nice rifle, anybody want to give us a brief history of the Comblain action ?

I'll have to dig up my DeHaas book again. I seem to remember his book having more info on the action than anyone else. I think it was Belgian origin, and one of the South American countries actually adopted the action for their military rifle?

Google never ceases to amaze me. Look at the wood even has the same pattern as the one pictured on our site
